Before entering credit card or other personal information on any web site(especially if you are new to it), read their privacy policy. When you do enter personal information, enter it on secure Web pages with “https” in the address bar and a padlock symbol at the bottom of your browser. These signs indicated protection from hackers.
4. Don’t fall for “Phishing”!
Scam artists disguise themselves as legitimate businesses that you do business with like your bank, stores, eBay, Paypal, government agencies and such. Tactics include phone calls, emails, regular mail, and others asking you to verify personal information like account numbers and passwords. Don’t respond unless you initiated the contact. Legit companies do not ask for this sort of information in these ways.
5. Control your personal financial information
Limit where you can, the sharing of your information between companies and/or their affiliates.
6. Opt-out of pre-approved credit card offers
Many pre-approved credit card offers are simply ploys to make your information an easy target to gather.
7. Check your bills and statements
Open these items when you receive them in the mail. Reconcile right away and look carefully for any unauthorized charges or withdrawals. If you don’t receive these in the mail, call to find out why in case anyone has changed your contact information.
8. Protect your computer
Computer viruses and spyware can compromise your privacy. Use the appropriate security software. Make your passwords difficult for others to guess. Don’t click on links in spam email.
9. Check your credit report

Are you doomed to failure in your business? Many will tell you that. After all, most small business ventures fail sometime within the first five years. Many people, sometimes even though well meaning, will try to discourage you from starting your own business. They will say you have to have a natural aptitude and talent for being in business. Or they might say, you have to be a born entrepreneur. It’s your choice whether to believe them or not, but I say if you are motivated to start your own business chances are you have these qualities to some degree already.
Sure, there ARE skills that you absolutely need to have to be a successful businessperson. The good news though, is there are many ways to develop those skills along the way. Instead of focusing on those skills at first, you should be thinking about the qualities inherent to all good entrepreneurs.
First is perseverance. Remember your research paper/project you had to write back in school? Well this is your research project on steroids! At the beginning, you may learn many new things and concepts from your research that require further study and understanding. You move forward slow, but steady. The danger being, that you give up just before you find the particular information you are seeking. If you keep plugging away and compiling the necessary information, you will end up with very nice finished product. This persistence and perseverance is the same thing you need in business. You must keep at it until you get to the point of success.
In the business world, perseverance certainly can take you a long way but a second valuable attribute is for one to have thick skin. Needless to say, along your journey of building your business you are going to come across many individuals that would like nothing more than to see you fail so they can succeed. You will without a doubt encounter those who have nothing good to say and are only negative about what you need to do with your business. You must take most of it with a grain of salt otherwise it won’t be long before you are ready to hang it up and close shop. Take the constructive advice and tune out the completely negative.
Your ultimate success in your business venture will require perseverance, a thick skin, and finally, the ability to deal with… FAILURE! That’s right. Failure. Many of the most successful people in business and in life have had to deal with many more failures than you might imagine. What separates people like Bill Gates who in the 1970s was a Harvard dropout? Or Elvis Presley who after his first show was told “you ain’t going nowhere, son”. Or Walt Disney who was fired by a newspaper editor because he lacked good ideas? The most successful people in life and in business were failures multiple times in their efforts to be successful. What separated them is that they did not give up. You shouldn’t either. If you have just one of the three qualities I have spoken of here, make it your ability to deal with failures by seeing them as part of your success journey.
If you will persevere through setbacks, let the negativity of people around you regardless of their intentions roll off of your back, and DO NOT quit despite the failures that will come your way in your business, you will not be able to keep from succeeding. Most fraudulent offers for internet business opportunities have similar red flags that should be your warning sign(s) to move on and keep looking for a legitimate business. There are four red flags specifically, that would be e-entrepreneurs should investigate thoroughly before signing up to work with or for a website. It's important to note that there are many great companies that ARE NOT out to take your money. However, if you spot one or more of the four following signs then look closely. Most "less than honest" companies have these in common:
1. A SIZABLE upfront investment 2. The promise of making big money with little or NO work 3. They are vague and ambiguous about what you will be selling 4. A curious lack of available contact information
Now just because there IS an upfront fee to become a representative for a business, this should not automatically raise a red flag as to whether a business opportunity is legit or not. It is not uncommon when you are considering being in business that there is some sort of investment outlay. However, you have to consider the amount in question before you should decide to sell a product or service. Does it seem unreasonably high? This could be a red flag. You should also know EXACTLY what you are getting in return for your investment. Also, it is common for opportunities to say they offer "training". Many times, however, the training is simply a series of links to other sites where you are expected to learn a company's business model on your own.
Additionally, training may also seem to have a sole focus of recruiting others while offering to pay a bonus for bringing in new people. A company that focuses on the recruiting of new people as your primary source of income instead of actually moving a product could be on the border of being illegal.
Beware of the promise of a huge payday with only an hour or two a day or even per WEEK of work! There's no question that some businesses require more work than others. A person running their own fast food restaurant most certainly works more than someone with an online business, but the both REQUIRE WORK. There is no such thing as a free lunch and those who tell you otherwise are not being totally honest. Another thought for you on this... He who puts the work in makes the most money. It may not be forever constant work if you build a residual income, but there is certainly the work factor in the beginning of any business.
If while reading an online based business opportunity, you find yourself struggling to figure out what you would actually being doing or selling, this could be your red flag for a scam. Many such "opportunities" keep it secret until your spend your money with them. Then you discover what they built up is either unrealistic to sell to others or you just can't with a clear conscience. You should know what the product or service is and how much it will cost before giving an offer any consideration.
Finally... Look closely and see what kind of contact information a company offers. Are you only able to contact them through an email address and is it a yahoo address or hotmail or the like? If so, this red flag could mean they don't plan on being around long enough to answer any questions or complaints. Money back guarantees may look good, but if you can't contact them to get your money back what good does that do you? For the most part, email addresses and P.O. Boxes are NOT good contact.

They receive votes on a regular basis on numerous opportunities as to whether they are good or not from actual participants. These statistics are posted and updated regularly. These days, it seems like everyone wants to work from home and make money on the Internet. But before you even turn on your computer, the first question you have to ask yourself is whether you’re cut out for this kind of work.

Why MUST you have a successful home business?
What is driving you? What is it that you CAN'T have in your life anymore and/or
what is it that you absolutely MUST HAVE now?
For me, I couldn't stand
working 12+ hours a day anymore and missing the experience of my children growing
up. I also absolutely HAD TO HAVE the freedom of being able to control
my life and finances through a little box (laptop computer) that I
could carry with me anywhere in the world and not be tied to anyone's
time pressures or demands but my own. That was my carrot and my stick.
I felt a great pain deep in my gut of missing out on my children's
lives and the incredible freedom that succeeding in a home based business
would provide for me. I found my why. You MUST find yours.

If
you don't believe that it's POSSIBLE for you to have a successful home based
