Your ability to start a home based business or to work from home for someone else is increasing daily as new opportunities come available every day. Entrepreneurs, sales representatives, customers service reps and many others are now more than ever working at home or from their homes. Finding the opportunity that fits you can be as easy as asking yourself a few questions. They are... What do I truly enjoy doing? What can I readily afford to allocate toward this opportunity if necessary? What resources and tools can I bring to the table that will help me build my business or do my job productively? Am I coachable, teachable, and willing to acquire new knowledge that can help me succeed? Asking yourself these questions can help you to narrow down which industry or areas of home business would best match your needs and what interests you.

Enjoying What You Do
If you hate your job or have no passion for your chosen home business field, in a short time period you will find it difficult to do the things necessary to succeed. Even if you are working from home, you will find it difficult to "drag yourself to work". Motivating yourself to do those things you know you need to do will become harder and harder. And if you are working from home, distractions that are inherent to being at home will easily detract your attention from the job at hand. Being honest with yourself about what you truly enjoy doing will allow you to enter a home business or home job with the confidence that you can perform every day. Sure there will be days when you don't feel like working even if you are doing what you love, but enjoying what you do will help ensure your perserverence and longevity.

Financial Concerns
When starting a home based business or when considering accepting a home job position, you should take the necessary time to understand your budget and income requirements. Having ample savings is certainly prudent. This is true no matter what you are doing, but especially in this case if you are building a new home based business from the ground up as your income source or if you have accepted a commission based position that takes time to get momentum. You need to know that you can meet your family's budget needs comfortably in order to eliminate any possible money stress that can hurt your productivity. Being able to survive comfortably for a 3 month period is a good rule of thumb. This allows time to establish yourself and produce a flow of income. You should also have a firm grasp on the money needed to fund your business. What are the cost of materials, necessary advertising, web hosting and so on? Most home based businesses fail within the first year from the lack of a realistic budget or the failure to budget at all.

Resources and Tools
An important consideration is to take inventory of the tools and resources that you may need for your business/job. You may have some things already on hand. Like your computer, internet access, and home phone line. A fax machine that doubles as copier can be a valuable tool. A hands free headset for your phone isn't a must, but if you'll invest in one you will be glad you did. Especially if you will be spending any amount of time on the phone in your home business or job. Having a dedicated phone line for your business and fax are nice, but not necessarily required. I have used very successfully a service called "distinctive ring" through my phone company. My phone has a different ring for business calls so I know when a business call is coming in. Also, my fax machine recognizes a different ring and answers those calls. Distinctive ring is great if you have access to it AND it's cheaper than having dedicated lines added to your home.

Being Coachable And Teachable
I once read where the word "teachable" is the Biblical word for "coachable". I don't know if this is theologically accurate, but I like it. In many ways, as this would indicate, the words are interchangeable. Both are key factors in evolving and succeeding. Those who shun these principles usually plateau while those who continue to be coachable and teachable continue to grow and reach higher levels of success. Successful home business people, home workers, and all other successful people from all walks of life not only learn but they apply what they learn. To simplify all of this... be willing to learn, be open to the idea that there is always knowledge out there you can add to your base of knowledge, be willing to take direction from those who have been or are where you want to go. That says it all. You don't have to be the best from the start, just be good at being coachable and teachable and the rest will come with time.

Once you've honestly answered of these questions, you will be able to make the most informed choice for your home business. This will allow you to begin your business by putting your best foot forward. Take the necessary time to prepare for your work at home job or home based business, and you will ensure that you thrive and succeed.

I was checking my voice mail yesterday and received a message
that was short and sweet. It said: "My name is Ken Shapiro. I'm
the writer, director, producer and star of the motion picture
'The Groove Tube'. Please call me back at ..."

Interesting. The writer, director, producer and star of a motion
picture?

My curiosity was aroused so I went to Google and looked up "The
Groove Tube". I discovered that Ken Shapiro was indeed all of
the things he said he was and that Chevy Chase, a very famous
American actor, had is debut film appearance in the movie. My
mind determined that Ken Shapiro was a force to be reckoned with
so I gave him a call.

It turns out that Ken found me online and was seeking some
guidance on how to promote his new project at
http://www.BedBooks.net. "Bed Books" is a very interesting
innovation and I must admit that I've often wanted to lay on my
side in bed and read a book, but that's not a very comfortable
thing to do. Thus, Ken's unique idea and business has the
potential to really take off.

In our brief conversation, we exchanged pleasantries and I gave
Ken a few tips on getting publicity for his site. He's obviously
a guy who takes action on his ideas so I expect that he'll take
the information I gave him and put it into motion immediately. If
so, you'll be hearing a lot more about Ken and BedBooks.net in
the near future. In exchange for my time and advice, Ken said he
is sending me a "Bed Book" to try out.

What's interesting about my conversation with Ken is my
motivation for having it in the first place. Considering that I
receive an overwhelming amount of voice mails every single day
and that I'm rarely able to call anyone back on the phone
personally, why did I choose to pick up the phone and call Ken on
my dime?

The answer is because Ken had established that he was already
successful. Because of the accomplishment of making "The Groove
Tube" movie in which Chevy Chase appeared back in 1972 I
determined that calling Ken would be, at the very least,
interesting. I also sensed that there could be the possibility
for me to benefit in some way because I perceived Ken to be
powerful and influential.

I was right. Ken is powerful. He's a doer. He makes things
happen and I respect him for that. In this world, it's the
dreamers that take action and persist until they succeed that get
my attention. That's why I called Ken and that's also why he
was able to benefit from a free consultation with me. In that
discussion, I gave Ken some very specific advice for marketing
his website that has the potential to bring him all the business
he can handle.

The point to take home is that Ken's previous success in the
movie business made it a lot easier for him to get the
information and resources he needs to succeed in his new venture.
In other words, past success has power.

When I first started my Internet business it was not easy. In
fact, it was downright difficult. I spent thousands of dollars on
credit trying to learn the game and acquire the tools I needed to
build my business. Everything was expensive and the people who I
thought could help me grow my business the most wouldn't give me
the time of day. I was a nobody in this world.

However, I was persistent and by leveraging my financial and
creative resources I was finally able to make my first sale
online. Once that occurred, I simply focused on what I did right
and did more of it. My sales continued to grow and I was becoming
successful.

From those initial small successes, I was able to continue
building my knowledge. I realized that once I had knowledge, I
could share it. By sharing my knowledge with others, I was able
to become an expert. As an expert, people were attracted to me.
Through that attraction, I was able to sell more goods and
services. I was becoming *very* successful.

Then other experts got attracted to me. They started giving me
their products and services for free. They were also open to the
possibility of working together. The same products and services
that I could barely afford in the beginning of my career and the
same people who wouldn't give me the time of day before, were
now becoming as freely available to me as oxygen itself.

Why? The answer is simple. I was already successful.

Is it easier for the rich to get richer? Absolutely. Is it easier
for successful people to become more successful? Definitely. The
momentum has already been established. Money attracts more money
and success attracts greater success.

Before you get cynical, first consider the fact that most of the
rich and successful people in this world started with nothing but
their ideas and enthusiasm. They were able to use that energy and
put it into motion to create their own success.

In most cases, the path they traveled was riddled with moments of
confusion, struggle and failure. But they persisted and with each
small success their path got easier and easier to travel until
they eventually paved it and turned that path into a "success
super-highway" that now allows them to travel and succeed with
ease.

The enormous power of past success is that it can and will
catapult you toward greater success in the future. Use everything
in your power right now to create some initial success and then
roll that success forward to create more success in your life.
You will ultimately discover this is a very easy thing to do.

Building a large internet based network marketing business can have several distinct challenges than building one of the many companies that are not solely based on the web. Sure, most network marketing companies have some sort of online presence these days, but I’m talking about the pure online network marketing business and the ones that are very slanted toward building on the internet. Both online and offline opportunities have their merits, but the pure online network marketing business’ biggest challenge is your communication with your online partners. A great tool to building an online network marketing empire is a well-written, well designed, and incredibly interesting newsletter. Many of the most successful online network marketers consider this one of their big “secrets”.

But ssshhh… Don’t tell anybody that I told you that. And by the way, here are a few of their “secrets” in the design of their wildly successful newsletters!

For starters, it is incredibly critical for you to create and emphasize the relationship you have between yourself and EACH recipient. A personal friendly greeting that shows you as a real, warm, and caring person is without question the best way to start. Far too many people who try the newsletter approach put too much focus on the mechanics of building their business, sales figures, product presentation and so on, rather than putting an emphasis on the human side of the business. Your business partners don’t want to feel like you are simply marketing to them. It’s much better if after reading your newsletter, they come away with the feeling that you put it together while thinking of them.

Graphics and html are nice, but can sometimes make downloading slow. Instead, send your newsletter in plain text. Keep the body of your newsletter in a nice easy to follow order. You don’t want it to appear muddled. Showcase distinct sections with some of them relating to your home company’s business, while others feature prospecting, business building articles and material on what you might want to be promoting specifically that month. It’s okay to intersperse your content with material related to your company’s industry.

For example, the first article may feature a new product that you are marketing while the second is focused on successful ways to prospect. The next article may be about the industry and changes that will effect everyone’s business followed by a special offer, joke, a business building quick tip and so on. The entire goal is to make the newsletter interesting, useful, and easy to read with the goal of having the entire newsletter read rather than simply glossed over.

Your newsletter should end with a friendly closing that in some way references the original greeting. When you are building a million dollar network marketing organization using the newsletter as your secret weapon, you want to squeeze any bit of usefulness from it. A personal signature, your title and contact information, an invitation to email you with questions or content suggestions, but also a call to action, such as buying the product or taking the free marketing course are good closes for the newsletter. You may even want to go so far as to give a teaser for the next newsletter, which will ensure that you will not receive too many unsubscribe requests!

When building a large network marketing organization, using a newsletter as your “secret weapon” would be a common step taken by many network marketers that have built multi-million dollars businesses. Do what other successful people have done and develop your own functional and useful newsletter. You will be glad you did.

The bottom line success of any legitimate network marketing business comes down to the gathering of actual customers and the relationship that one has with those customers. Sure you need to recruit business partners and help them do the same in order to build a big business, but the customers and the relationship you have with them is critical to your businesses success. Because no one gets paid until a product or service is sold, right? If this is not the case with your MLM opportunity then you might need to check and see if your business is operating legally! That’s the subject for another article though. The focus here is on yours and your partner’s relationships with customers.

Customer relationship management and success in ANY business go hand in hand and this holds true in network marketing as well. As a matter of fact, it’s even more important in an MLM business since everyone in an organization typically has only a handful of customers rather than hundreds or even thousands of them. Yours and your organization’s good relationship with customers helps insure that during down economic times that business stays strong. Of course this is easier with some MLMs that are not so product based or that have a service that many people might see as expendable during harder times.

If you aren’t sure whether you are really making the most of your network marketing business with respect to growing and maintaining your customer base and relationships, here are a few good starting points for your business.

· Keep in mind how it is that a particular customer came to be your customer to begin with. How, when, and why did the relationship begin? Are they a relative or friend? Were they more of a stranger to you before becoming a customer? Where they referred to you by someone? These factors are important considerations in how you treat and approach a particular customer.

· Start keeping a log when you gather new customers and note your thoughts on why they became your customer. What attracted them to you and/or your product or service. By doing this, you can keep track for each customer what need you think you should continue to fill to keep them as a happy customer. Many times you will be able to pinpoint the reasons why they became your customer. Sometimes you won’t. If not, then ask them.

· Keep in touch with them on a semi-regular basis at least. Even if they are on some sort of auto-ship or have a service that requires little or no attention from you like electricity for example. They use it and pay for it every month without thought, but hearing from you to see how they are keeps on the top of their mind where they got their product or service from in the first place and reminds them that they can call you if any issue arises.

· Keeping in touch doesn’t just mean by telephone. That’s certainly a great way, but also dropping them a note by email is important. Putting a Thank You note or just about any brief note in the regular mail is great. Everyone loves to get a postcard or letter in the mail. That personal touch goes a long way. And then there is Christmas cards or even birthday cards are also enjoyed and appreciated. Not only do they appreciate you for this but THEY feel appreciated.

Customer relationship management in the network marketing world is often sold quite short. It deserves much more attention and credit for success in MLM businesses. There is no doubt that the focus of network marketers is the hunt for new business partners to sponsor. This receives the lion’s share of the marketer’s attention as well it should. It is how one will build a very large business. In fact, it is mostly during this quest for business partners that many of your customers may be found. Once they become a customer, it is the relationship savvy business person who goes on to huge success.

This leads to two things: more expendable income and less time with the children. This means children must fend for themselves when it comes to their entertainment many times, and this of course leads to greater amounts of spending in that area.

In addition to entertainment items, what cannot be ignored are the huge opportunities in the world of providing day care and extra-curricular activities for these young children. Combined with the need for necessities, it has created a wide open world of franchise and business ideas and possibilities. The market simply cannot be ignored by anyone wishing to enter an industry with unlimited growth potential. If you are someone who wants to go into business for yourself but aren’t sure what market to focus on, you could do worse than build something around the kids market. It’s not going anywhere that's for sure, and it could provide you and your family with a wonderful income for years to come.

Before you can have a successful home based business, you must first possess 3 "intangibles." These are things that must come from WITHIN you.

===> Intangible 1 <===

First,you must have a strong WHY.

Why MUST you have a successful home business? What is driving you? What is it that you CAN'T have in your life anymore and/or what is it that you absolutely MUST HAVE now?

For me, I couldn't stand working 12+ hours a day anymore and missing the experience of my children growing up. I also absolutely HAD TO HAVE the freedom of being able to control my life and finances through a little box (laptop computer) that I could carry with me anywhere in the world and not be tied to anyone's time pressures or demands but my own. That was my carrot and my stick. I felt a great pain deep in my gut of missing out on my children's lives and the incredible freedom that succeeding in a home based business would provide for me. I found my why. You MUST find yours.

===> Intangible 2 <===

You must BELIEVE that it is possible.

If you don't believe that it's POSSIBLE for you to have a successful home based business or make your living from home, you won't. It's that simple.

For me, figuring out that it was possible was just a matter of realizing that many other people were ALREADY making great money working from home. If they could do it, I could too. It would just be a matter of figuring out what those people were doing and then adapting it to my situation.

There is no shortage of undeniable PROOF that people (millions of them) are making money working from home. Just get online and do some research and you'll find countless testimonials and stories of REAL PEOPLE making real money on the Internet. Or head to your local bookstore and you'll find the same documented evidence of this fact. Truth is, it's getting easier and easier to make money with your own home based business.

I've always said that "affiliate marketing" (a simple way to make money from home) is the job of the future. In the old days, you had to go to a potential employer, apply for the position and hope for the best. Now you can simply go to any company you want, fill out their affiliate application and start work immediately. Affiliates are the new working class. In fact, making money with affiliate programs or making your living on the Internet is WAY MORE than possible. It is pretty much (or will be soon enough) unavoidable now. Affiliate marketing is the "job" of the future that's already here TODAY.

You must be willing to MAKE THE LEAP.

Ready, FIRE, then aim... This is the operating philosophy you MUST adopt to succeed with a home based business.

That's backwards for most people who like to aim before they fire. The fact is that home based business success is a moving target... The only thing constant about it is change. You need to stop analyzing the game and simply jump into it. You can't learn from the outside... You have to be *IN THE RING* to truly understand and profit from it. In fact, this is a business where you can truly be earning WHILE you're still learning...

The lesson here is that you will never really be READY to start a home based business. You simply have to start one. It's like having children... You're never really ready, but when it happens you adapt and grow and therefore you succeed. This is what I call: "Making the Leap"!

The good news is that the cost of failure with having your own home based business is very small. In the "brick and mortar" world you need to evaluate things very carefully before you decide to open up a business. It's almost always necessary to invest thousands of dollars to get an offline business off the ground. However, on the Internet you can often start a successful business for less than $100.
